Our award winning Volunteer Program is an integral part of our services and relationships. With the dedication of 130,000 hours a year, volunteers are what make our work possible.
St. Anthony Foundation welcomes more than 9,000 people each year from every sector of the community from students to corporate employees to engage in direct service to the poor and homeless.
Volunteer projects range from serving trays to guests in the Dining Room, sorting clothes to preparing the Clothing Program for service, to skills-based service in the Tenderloin Tech Lab, Clinic, and Social Work Center. Volunteer projects range from regular shifts to special group projects designed for large or small teams.
Our professionally structured program provides volunteers with an empowering and educational experience. Service at St. Anthony's is more than volunteerism, it's an opportunity to connect with the people of the Tenderloin community through shared moments of compassion and the gratification of creating positive change. All volunteers are given a n orientation to St. Anthony's programs, guests and neighborhood to prepare them for their volunteer experience.
St. Anthony's has several volunteer programs to meet the specific needs of different types of volunteers. Please read the following to see which program best meets your situation and interests.
This program is for individuals (13 yrs and older) or small groups (5 or less, a family or small group of friends) who want to do a single day of service in the Dining Room or want to become an ongoing volunteer. There are a wide variety of service projects for individuals in both our direct service programs and other Foundation departments. All new volunteers must attend an orientation. To learn more about our volunteer opportunities and orientation please contact Marie O’Connor by email or at (415) 592-2726.
St. Anthony's welcomes all academic, faith based, and social groups. We invite our volunteer groups to participate in our Justice Education Program which offers volunteers a holistic service experience. This program is for groups of high school age and older. Service opportunities are available 7 days a week and the Justice Education Program is available Monday through Friday. To learn more about our group volunteer program or to sign up for a group volunteer project please send us an email or call us at (415) 592-2728.
